Harvey Baigent originally comes from Warwickshire, where he began his musical career as a chorister. At the age of 8 he started to learn the cornet with the village brass band and at 14 was appointed principal trumpet of the Warwickshire Youth Orchestra.

He joined the Royal Air Force as a musician at 17, spending much of his career with the Central Band of the RAF, for many years as the principal cornet/trumpet. Having completed the RAF Bandmaster course in 1997 he qualified as a conductor, being awarded the Sir Felix Cassel Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians in the same year. In 2006 Harvey retired from the RAF, and after a few months working at the Royal College of Music, he joined the Royal Air Forces Association as their South Eastern Area Administrator.

In 2012 Harvey worked at the East Barnet Music Centre as their principal conductor. During 2013 he took up a placement in Qatar as a trumpet professor and conductor for their army bands. On return from Qatar he joined Bucks Learning Trust as a conductor and brass teacher at the Aylesbury and High Wycombe Music Centres.

During his extensive musical career Harvey performed with many musical combinations and genres from solo trumpeter to full symphony orchestra. In addition to the bands of the Royal Air Force Harvey played with The National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, The Hitchen Concert Orchestra, The RAF Squadronaires, Sun Life Brass Band, Henry’s Boot Blacks (traditional dance orchestra), Pontins and Butlins show bands, Bristol Cream Big Band, The BBC Wind Orchestra, The London Mozart Players, The Misboune Symphony Orchestra and Bucks Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

Harvey studied conducting with many eminent maestro’s including Dr Rod Winther (University of Cincinnati), Frank Renton, Dr Lazlo Marosi (University of Florida), Guy Woolfenden, Tim Reynish (RNCM) and Baldur Brönnimann (RNCM).

He is in great demand as a conductor and brass clinician and has been Musical Director for Thame Concert Band, Bisham Concert Band, Crawley Millennium Concert Band, Vale Symphonic Wind Orchestra and Bourne Concert Band of Woking and guest conductor for Kew Wind Orchestra, Central Band of the Royal British Legion, The City of Oxford Brass Band, the Royal Air Force’s Association President’s Band and Aylesbury Concert Band.
